Description Richard Masterson is close to 6'8" tall, with broad, sturdy shoulders. He's built like a Urban Brawler [read: brick shithouse] but doesn't suffer from a lack of neck. He's not the most handsome man on the planet, but he certainly isn't an appaling sight to behold. His dark-brown hair and green eyes give him a "normal" quality, but his presence is what makes stand out. He has an aura of calm control over him, like that of a benign king.

His arms, torso and face [especially his chin and brow] are a mish-mash of smaller and larger scars. A biomonitor is grafted in the muscle and skin tissue of his left pectoral, a small black plasteel box with a readout screen and two dark red buttons plus a small fiberoptics port.

The rest of his body is littered with bio- and cyberware, most notable to cyberware sensors would be the cybereyes, tatical computer, wired reflexes, dermal armour and bone lacing. All state of the art.
Personality Duty comes first for Masterson, to the point of absurdity...to the point of disobeying orders. This, combined with the fact that he is one determined fragger, has earned him the respect of his peers and superiors. There's one downside of this, which he has seen more than once, that he can easily be manipulated by those who know him well. He's transparent, he's not an enigma to those who understand his way of thinking. Luckily this doesn't count on his tactical prowess.

As a tactician he never seems to amaze, never seems to run out of options and ideas. This is not because he's a total geezoid brainiac, but rather because he is willing to listen to the input of his team members. He knows that predictability means death, therefor he likes to use unorthodox methods of getting things done.

Since the death of his wife in Chicago he has become more determined than ever. He seems to have plans to take on every bug in Chicago personally, but he doesn't try it in a suicidal kind of way, but rather in a tactful, though swift way. It's the fact that he's looking to find an end to it all quickly that's pissing off the top brass. Somehow he's been stepping on some powerful toes lately because of this.
History Oh god, where to begin...

Richard Masterson was taken off the streets of Boston about 30 years ago by a high ranking secret service officer specialized in training people to be stand-alone, solo operatives. Quickly it became evident that Richard was a strong tactician and that he would thrive better with a team at his back, so at the approximate age of 16 he was signed up for the UCAS military. Almost immediately, Richard was sent off to fight in the EuroWars. He survived his two tours of duty and was decorated with recommendations and medals. He didn't do much climbing in rank due to his age...he would've if he'd been a little older so he could command a bit more respect from the veteran soldiers.

When he got home from the EuroWars he joined up with Knight Errant and worked in security for a few years, here he met his wife Melissa. They moved to Chicago and Richard started working on his career. He soon got asked to join the recently set up "Firewatch Teams", but refused the job of being the CO of the first two Firewatch Teams. He firmly believes that the first two Firewatch Teams are solely to cut ribbons, shake hands and kiss babies. Whenever they are put into action, the third Firewatch Team - Richard's Firewatch Team - does all the work while the media-puppies take the credit. Seeing as how he doesn't like being the center of attention, he was very happy in that position.

Richard, and his Firewatch Team did missions all over the globe and when his CO got transfered to a nice cushy office position, Richard got offered the position. He turned it down because he thought he wasn't ready yet. Two years later his CO died in clearing one of the hives in Chicago, Richard accepted the position then, feeling more secure in his ability to lead. By that time the entire team trusted him like nobody else and he had grown to become an excellent tactician whose opinion and input was requested by many people and agencies.

Then the bomb hit Chicago, the Containment Zone was errected and the Wall was put up. Melissa wasn't supposed to be there, Richard had told her to go to her mother's in Maryland but was sworn to secrecy as to what was going on. He couldn't tell her why, and though she didn't understand she did what he asked of her. Later, she had to run some errands back in Chicago and she returned on that fateful day. She got killed, her body was never recovered. Richard still hopes to find her somewhere in that hell-hole but he knows that realistically, she's dead.

In January 2057, Richard and his team stumbled across a gang in Chicago on a standard sweep and clear routine mission. The gang's name was the "Desolate Angels" and they found out that the members all were hosts for Female Mantis Spirits. The female Mantis spirits had somehow the ability to assume the human form of their host, but where more like True Forms in nature. Male Mantis spirits were always flesh-forms and didn't have this ability. Little was known about the rare Mantid spirits, except that they were extremely powerful - perhaps even the most powerful bug spirits out there - able to rip through a platoon of mercs without much trouble. Also, they seemed to be the only bugs that attacked and devoured other bugs.

What they found was that the Desolate Angels had hatched a dangerous plot to replace highly poweful, influential, highly placed women of society by one of their own. They had found a way to smuggle Female Mantis' out of Chicago and were on their way to claim a lot of poweful women as their own. When Richard found a list of women that were possible candidates and possible merges already, he hatched a plan of himself, especially when he saw who was on the list; Anne Penchyk.

Richard had an emergency meeting with his entire team, far away from the prying eyes of his superiors. What to do? He had already enquired with his senior officers but someone was trying to prevent him from looking into it too deeply. The entire team was behind their CO when he suggested going AWOL and going after the Mantis spirits. All of the team's members were veterans, had lost loved ones to the bugs and were wholy determined.

For months they were stuck in Chicago cleaning up as many Mantis spirits as they could. Then they broke out of the CZ and headed for Seattle to find Anne Penchyk and a day before the elections, they took over the Seattle Space Needle. Having 31 hostages and 3 prisoners of war [Anne Penchyk and her two aids - all three of them Mantis Spirits], he delivered his demands to the United Canadian and American States:

1. A helicopter and safe passage to Bremmerton,
2. the promise from all the presidential electors [with the exception of Anne Penchyk] that the Chicago Issue would be resolved before Febuari 2058,
3. and a complete psychological and magical background check of 17 influential, highly placed women.

The hostage taking lasted for hours in which many hostages were shot and thrown off the Seattle Space needle in order to show the media - who were being held at a considerable distance by LoneStar and "Knight Errant Hostage Negotiation Experts" - and law enforcement that they were serious.

The 1st and 2nd demand were easily met. The 3rd however, took a while. Not only did many of the women on the list feel that their privacy was being comprimised by terrorists, others simply couldn't be found on such short notice. Certain others, like Samantha Villiers had, in a display of public relations, immediately agreed to the demand. However, there was still that lingering thought of Ms. Penchyk, why wasn't he giving her up.

Hours later he confessed the reason; she was a Mantis Spirit and he would accept two unbiased experts to verify this fact. The experts would be delivered to him, at least one from the Dunkelzahn Institute for Magical Research, and the other from an organization of the negotiators choice; MIT&T. The Suborbital left from DC to Seattle where it had an accident right before landing. According to eye-witnesses lightning played around the nose of the plane before the front burst into a gigantic ball of flame.

Meanwhile, Masterson had taken care of a backup plan by somehow getting a private trideo line into the Space Needle and broadcasting through the Ork Underground's very own "Ork First" network. They would prove once and for all that Anne Penchyk was a Mantis Spirit, and they did. The woman changed into a Mantis and was cut down - with great difficulty I might add - on national television, or at least, those parts that Ork First could hack into.

The entire group, including the remaining hostages disappeared soon after into the delivered helicopters and flew across the Pudget Sound to the abandoned shipwreck graveyard off of Bremmerton. There they hostages were released and the ex-Firewatch team boarded a sub-marine and weren't heard of again.

We're still missing many, many details, and we hope you can provide them.

Yes, I'm doing fine. I find new joy in my life now that I know we stopped whatever the hell they were. If faced with the same situation, I would go in just as willingly as I did this time [after I figured out what was going on], but I do have a bit of an empty feeling inside of me; I can never share this with anyone, nobody will ever understand, besides you, Roadblock and Six, that is.]<<<<<
