In 1945 the german archaeology team dispatched by the Nazi leaders found an old scroll in a cave at Nag Hamadi, Israël (then Palastina). This scroll came into the hands of the Vatican and after inspecting its content they burried the scroll deep within the archives. They did so because the information on the scroll could be very harmful to the church.
The scrolls held the last words of Jesus Christ who spoke of the Second Resurrection, the dwindling of the faith in the future and the return of the Enemy. It was written in a language so old that it has no name. At the time of the discovery the nameless language was known by 17 scholars, all very old. They worked together on the translation of the text and in the end only 2 survived, the Pope and a person whose name escapes the records.
Today, only four people know the language; The Pope, Dunkelzahn, Father Michaello DiMarco and one other whose name is unknown.
.: The Chosen One
The prophecy tells of one who will fight a great evil after coming back from the dead. He would attain almost godlike powers in order to fight the Enemy. Also he would not be a pacifist, he would be a Warrior of the Faith, strong enough to oppose the aggression of the Enemy.
.: The Vatican
There are two fractions within the highest circles of the Vatican, one led by the Pope and one led someone who is referred to as the Stranger.
The Pope believes the chosen one must go unaided to reach his enlightened status, that will be the only way to know for certain that it is him. He is still the beacon of light and goodness that he’s supposed to be. When he was first instated as Pope he found so much corruption and disloyalty he dispised what he saw and decided to make things right again. He has been able to find the loyalty of many within the church but he is opposed by a man called the Stranger.
The Stranger believes the chosen one should not be allowed to ascend by himself but instead they should force his death and afterwards he will, together with a team of mages, raise the chose one just like he did so long ago when he raised Jesus from his grave. Yes, the Stranger has been around for a very long time and has manipulated things from behind the scenes.
The first resurrection was necessary, Jesus Christ had unfinished business on earth and the Stranger knew what he had to do. They found a manaspike, a place where, in a time of no magic, mana was very faintly present. And he and a team of followers found enough power to raise Jesus Christ and make him into the martyr he is today.
The Stranger and his group is not willing to wait for the chosen one to die and is prepared to go very far to reach his goal. He set up a project together with the Pope called Sanctus Vitae Secundus, which task was to monitor and manipulate the chosen one’s life as soon as he’d been discovered. Some 12 years ago they found him and they made sure he got the right training.
.: The Second Resurrection
Some months ago, when the Pope was busy with other matters, the Stranger broke his promise and went ahead with his own plans. He had indirectly given the Chosen One an assignment to go to Africa to do a courier run. There he found a slaughtered village and the Chosen One couldn’t contain his rage and went on a killing revenge.
Of course, the Stranger had set all this up, had ordered the village killed and was waiting for the Chosen one, whom he knew so well, to come and get his revenge. The Chosen One was killed and the Stranger performed the ritual together with his Mage Cabal.
After they had resurrected him from death, they changed his memory of the events in order to fool his spirit, to trick it into believing everything was still okay. When the Chosen One came to, he saw what he thought he had done and in fear of retribution and punishment he fled to Cairo from where on he went to Seattle.
.: Leto Hoffmann
After Leto arrived in Seattle, the church lost track of him for a while. The Stranger had taken precautions by taken blood samples, DNA samples and personal items belonging to Leto in order to Ritually Track him all over the world. But the Pope managed to spoil his plans when he found out what they had done. Enraged by the blantant breaking of Christian rules by killing innocent people he captured one of the Stranger’s Cabal and managed to convert him to the Pope’s side.
The one who converted is called Michaello DiMarco, one of the last people to be able to translate Jesus Christ’s Last Words. He had taken the DNA/Blood samples and the personal items belonging to Leto and performed the Ritual Tracking himself and found him at the Church at Armitage St. He destroyed the Ritual equipment in order for the Stranger not to do the same without acquiring new samples, which meant he had to find Leto the mundane way.
After faking his own suicide he secretly left for Seattle to find Leto and observe him. He has contacted a very old friend of his called Flannagan, a priest at St. Mary’s Church in Seattle. He has also hired a hired out a rather large priest who went a bit off the deep end to help him as he himself is very old.
