.: The Wastelands :.
· DV8 [17-08-2008 / 05:41:34]

.: Information :.
Location:4452 3rd Avenue, between Marion Street and Columbia Street.
Owner:Nick Cassavettes
Manager:Johnny Wu
Maps:Nightclub ground floor
.: Owners
The Wastelands is a trendy nightclub in the center of Downtown Seattle. It's crowd is a mixture of hard-knock streetcreeps, upper-class rich kids and those that make a living in the shadows. If you believe in the "Six Degrees of Seperation" adage, then the diversity of the crowd makes it a perfect place to find information on what's happening on the Streets.

The owner of The Wastelands is an elf named Nick Cassavettes who, together with his girlfriend Nina, run the business with the backing of the local Triad, the Yellow Lotus [with Maximilian as their primary contact]. Maximilian has made sure that Nick has free reign in the way he runs things and keeps the Yellow Lotus involvement to a minimum.

>>>>>[Well, I can't be sure what's going on, but ever since Nick left about two weeks after Dunkelzahn's assassination, Maximilian stepped in and took over the club for a while until Johnny Wu was up for the task of running the show. Nina came back from some time in DeeCee, and found herself without a home. Now the control is firmly in the hands of Johnny Wu, and nobody knows where Nick went. Not to mention the fact that he took Iris with him and neglected to mention to Nina that he'd be leaving.]<<<<<

.: The Building
The building is in the dead center of 3rd Av. between Marion and Columbia. It's a four storey [free-standing] building, joined on all sides [except the front] by alleys. The alley on the right side of the building is wide enough for a truck to pass through. About halfway it ends before a ramp that leads down underneath a small storage building that The Wastelands uses.

.: The Basement
The ramp leads to a basement level, which spans the entire length and width of the building. From the inside the basement can be reached through various ways, most accessible on the left side of the stage on the first storey in the main hall. The basement acts as a warehouse, a storage facility. All kinds of associates of Nick keep items stashed there and most of them don't even know that their stuff is lying next to other people's stuff. The Yellow Lotus, Frogtongue, Nina, Maximilian, Ralphie and a wide range of others have items stashed there. Quite recently, Bishop started stashing some of his goods there as well after he decided to move out of his own warehouse.

.: The First Floor
The first floor of the building is mostly covered by the main hall, which is a dancing area surrounded on two sides by a slightly elevated floor with booths that can seat up to fifteen people, depending on the table. To get to the dancehall you first go through the wardrobe area, which is manned by Frogtongue and Douglas as bouncers and Flex at the check-in. Here you will also be able to find a public telecom area and the restrooms. These areas are all normal height [approx. 10 feet] except for the dancehall, of which has had the ceiling broken away and the second floor has been made part of the dancehall. The dancehall is approximately 20 feet in height, not counting all the lighting equipment and walkways on the ceiling.

The elevated stage is about 6 feet in height and 20 feet deep. On either side there are stairs, the left going down into the basement, the right going up, backstage. Next to the stairs to the basement, on the left, there is a door that leads to what used to be an elevator shaft but now holds a stairway spiraling up to the remainder of the second floor.

.: The Second Floor
Because the second floor is mostly taken up by the dancehall there are still two area's left. First is the area above the entrance and wardrobe, which is taken up by Nick's office. Nick's office goes along the width of the dancehall and has floor-to-ceiling smoked one-way smoked windows that look out over the dancehall. Second is the area above the stage and backstage area which is a living area for Nick, Nina and Iris. Few have ever been there and it is a place Nick keeps to himself.

.: The Third Floor
Even fewer people have ever been up to the "attic" of the Wastelands than there have been people in Nick and Nina's living area.

.: The Club
Opening hours of the club is 17:00pm until 7:00am, but for the initiated the club is accessible from as early as 10:00am. The housestyler/bartender Cecile likes to change the look of the entire dancehall from time to time, but one thing that is constant is the lighting. The lighting in the club area [or the lack of lighting, they like to keep things dark and gritty] is predominantely white with here and there some blue lights and red lights at the bars and booths. The overall look is an industrial look with lots of corroded steel fences and steel-welded constructions.

There is one long bar against the far wall on the right side of the stage that takes up about half of the length of the dancehall before making way for the elevated floor. There are stools welded to the floor at the bar, but they aren't really meant to sit on but rather to keep people from overcrowding the bar.

Click here to download a quick sketch of the first floor. The difference in colors is to give a rudimentary impression of depth.
